E.L. Red Alert was a consignment of Bill and Karen Coward of Elk Horn Llamas from Hamilton, Montana at the Celebrity 2003 sale. Norris and Kay Berg from Ellsworth, Wisconsin and Terry Dunbar from Brantwood, Wisconsin purchased him in a joint effort.

Red Alert was born during a time when there were forest fires traveling through Montana. At the time Red Alerts mother Mauna Lani, was due with him, she was transported to the Star Sapphire Ranch for protection from the fires. Red Alert was born at the Star Sapphire Ranch on September 11th of 2000. His mother, Mauna Lani, is one of the well-known daughters of the famous Mirabelle, the highest selling female llama that there ever was. Mirabelle was raised by Paul and Sally Taylor and sold at a previous celebrity to Iris Christ from Llama Woods Ranch. Mauna Lani is a dark, stretchy Click for larger imagegirl, with a long elegant neck, with beautiful head and face. She has the absolutely most perfect set of ears. E.L. Red Alerts maternal bloodlines are very strong in the large, stretchy, and statutesque body type. On this side of the pedigree, there are well known names such as, Macho Macho, Macho Camacho, Chi Chi PL, Mirabelle, The Fiduciary, and Belladonna. His Father is the ever so great producing sire, G.L.L. Dorado. He is a majestic male that has plenty of class and style. He is a dream to look at because he has it all, the flash, presence, fiber and bone. His parents are the famous LW Blue Boy and Hot Chili. Dorado has stamped out many beautiful offspring in his time. His daughters are very much desired in the mid west. They are sought after, because of the great producing mothers they are. No one is willing to part with his or her Dorado daughters. Not only does he produce excellent daughters but his sons such as E.L. Red Alert has made their mark in the llama world. The Dorado line on the paternal side comes from the world-renowned Llama Woods Bolivian bloodlines. These llamas are found only in the best of pedigrees, LW Blue Boy, LW Willie K, LW Blue Willow, LW Kissim and LW Blossom. Dorado’s mother was Hot Chili a Chilean import. She is only found in the best of the pedigrees. She is probably one of the best females that were ever imported into the United States. Her offspring have been some of the best the industry has ever seen.

Red Alert is a very deserving herd sire. He is absolutely one of the most stunning breeding males that have ever hit the ground. Red Alert is very stretchy and has the natural presence that give him the very “Alert” look, which makes him stand out among the very best of the breeding males. Red Alert is draped in beautiful heavy silky wool. His wool has high luster and makes the rich mahogany red color very striking. He has a rich dark brown color across his back. His lower legs are a white to light silver in color. There is a band of silver that blends into a white/cream color that wrapsClick for larger image around the upper part of his neck. Red Alerts face is a dark gray with black accents around the eyes and ears. Both sides of his face have and light orange color that blends into the mahogany red patches, that high lights his face and gives him a very attractive head. Like his mother, he has the most perfect ears that are covered with fringes of wool that give him a very flashy appearance. There is a lot of chrome on this male llama. It is a joy to watch him in the pasture when he is standing at attention. His natural presence gives him a very majestic and regal appearance, he is so perfect when standing at attention, he looks like a statue. If you would see him in person not only would his stature impress you but also his movement is very fluent and graceful. Red Alert conformation is impeccable, his legs and top line are very straight. This powerful body of his has plenty of substance and strength all supported by excellent bone structure and muscle.

The first Red Alert baby was born this last February (2004) on the Elkhorn Llama Ranch in Montana. The nice size female is a solid back with nice wool and a set of ears to match her fathers and grandmother. The second Red Alert baby was a very striking black and white male born in Iowa in April. Tom Carlisle had one of their very nice females bred to Red Alert while he was in a layover from Celebrity. The third Red Alert baby was born May 15 at Dover 3 East. This very large boy came into the world weighing 35-1/2 lbs. Since he was the third Red Alert baby born he was named Third Alert. His mother is DDH Sierra. He is marbled brown boy with about five different colors of brown with accents of white on his legs and on his head. He is good size with a beautiful set of ears. The Thrill of Hope was born on May 24. She was born to the very large and elegant East Fork Shangri-la. She is a beautiful appy with excellent wool and coverage. She is going to be a good size girl and at this point looks to have the show quality of her father. You can watch for her Click for larger imagein the show ring…. because she definitely is a showgirl…with a lot of hope for the future. Red Jester was born June 2 and there is no mistake of who his father is, because he looks a lot like Red Alert. His mother is PPLP Anne. He looks to have the conformation of a show quality boy and with his mother size behind him he could very well follow the footsteps of his father. He has the striking muti-colors like his father. On June 9 another Red Alert boy hit the ground. This one was a solid deep red with dark accents on his legs and face. He received the deserving name of Red Splendor. He is a very striking young male. His mother Mackenzie has very fine silky wool and Red Splendor inherited this very silky wool from his mother and father. He will also be a contender for the show ring next show season. After a couple of boys another Red Alert girl is born on June 10. The mother to this good size baby is GJ Timber Bear. This deep dark brown girl with color patch on her cheeks and a white leg covered with black spots was named Candy Bear. She is going to be a very large girl at the rate she is growing right now. Her conformation and wool is going to make her a looker. Then on 6-29 Night Divine was born to Maubee. This Red Alert girl has a deep dark black coat with lots of luster. She has a white and brown patch on her left cheek. She is also going to be large girl with a perfect set of ears. On the fourth of July Ruby Checks from the Patterson herd decided to have her baby boy “Firecracker”. This boy is a very striking mahogany color with a white head and white legs. Nice contrast between the white and the dark mahogany color makes it very easy to find him in the herd. He is about as straight as he can possibly get. His wool is exceptionally fine. He will be another contender for the show ring.
